At the same time, of course, Destiny 2 has to relish and reward the relationships that existing players have built with the franchise over the past three years. The first 20 hours: September 5, – by Samit Sarkar Catering to newcomers and veterans alike is a tough balancing act. Some longtime players are still mad that all their existing gear, which they earned over dozens or hundreds of hours with Destiny, is gone — narrative justification be damned. But that may all end up as water under the bridge.

Comments Shares Destiny 2 is coming, and it is making changes. Some – like the new Guardian subclasses, and the expanded roster of interconnected Patrol activities – are big and obvious. Others – such as the recategorisation of weapon types and tweaks to existing supers – are big and not so obvious. But, Destiny being the throbbing mesh of tangled, deeply-connected systems that it is, they all add up to a rather different player experience.
And nowhere will such tune-ups and changes in focus be felt more cleanly than in the exacting, competitive environment of Crucible PvP. Especially when you factor in the new, smaller, four-player cap for Crucible teams. So, now that we know the overall shape of Destiny 2, I felt it was time to dig deep into PvP and work out specifically what the future holds for the competitive-minded Guardian. The fight just changed. Kinetic and Energy weapon slots replace the old Primary and Secondary shelves, both accommodating the exact same array of Auto Rifles, Pulse Rifles, Hand Cannons, and Scout Rifles, with the latter category also sporting elemental damage.

In practice, this boils down to a more consistent, attritional, medium-range game, where spacing, cover, and team-play take precedence over shotgun rushdowns and sniper camping. A great bit of balance, given the super-dominance in the original Destiny, and a move that makes even more sense of the new prominence of extended, roaming supers. But more on that in a moment.

By Anthony Taormina 8 months ago Although players have been requesting it since the early days of Destiny 1, Bungie confirms that Destiny 2 will not support matchmaking in the traditional sense. There will be a new feature called Guided Games that is meant to bring players together for challenging activities, but randomly pairing players is something that Bungie feels does not work for its game.
Noseworthy also shared some info about how Guided Games will support a variety of players with a variety of interests. Teaming random players together very rarely ends well. The type of community we want to have, the friendly, welcoming space we want Destiny to be. Please be fair to other players. When you are playing the raid — people have roles, there is coordination. Even so, Bungie has not left solo players completely in the dust for Destiny 2. A new feature called Guided Games will offer players and teams an in-game searching option whereby they can fill out their fireteam.
They said they are really into playing with Hunters and they all like shotguns, and they are open to noobs. Putting them together is fundamentally different, socially, than matching up with random players. Since the very beginning, the Destiny experience has been about bringing players together, anonymously. A solo player or a group of friends can jump into a strike or PvP match and compete for a similar goal without ever speaking or interacting, but somehow they share an experience.
However, there exists in Destiny a few gameplay experiences that are only for pre-made groups, namely Trials of Osiris, the Nightfall Strike , and the raid.

If you can’t do that, then you might as well not even have a multiplayer component. Yet every year we see AAA titles release that fail to adequately master this part of the equation. You could really only get into a matchmaking queue for strikes and the Crucible. Everything else in the game required you to go onto one of the"looking-for-group” websites or apps and roll the dice.
While fans banding together to support a title is commendable, it’s not okay that much of the time this was the only way to actually play the game. Well, that’s too bad because there were practically no people looking to do the same thing. Even if you wanted to do the more popular Raids or Lighthouse runs, the stipulations people put on joining their group became ridiculous.
